#55 Things we do for ourselves
Resumed from the unintentional pause of this letter last Sunday.
Explained the pause in the draft but decided to delete it.
Purchased and set up an ultra compact temporary gazebo to shield from the relentless australian sun in the backyard, the only place we feel we belong.
Blue tarp was tied to the east aspect of the gazebo, to extend our stay outdoors.
Eating breakfast lunch and dinner in the gazebo in the backyard.
Cleaned out an unused mop bucket to ferry personal items between our room and the gazebo.
Unknotted years of tangled electric wires so the router has one less brick wall to penetrate, extending wifi one quarter way into the room we sleep in.
Using an old unused bathrobe to stuff the gap between the floor and the door to our room.
Wearing sunglasses and hats indoors in the common areas.
Dressed up our second hand mattress on the floor veiled by a worn down summer bedding with warmer underlay, blankets, and thicker fabric sheets, so I no longer wake in the middle of the night with a pain deep in what feels like bones of my shoulders.
Folded a single summer quilt in half and sewed it to a single all season quilt to make an almost-queen size quilt.
The worn summer sheets and pillow cases are used to stuff the gap between the plaster wall and the mattress on the floor, keeping out as much cold air as we can with little.
Made bread: raisin & walnut, wholemeal & chickpea, carrot & oats, cacao coconut cinnamon.
Visited the library and checked out Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s Wind, Sand and Stars but have yet to find time to read the inside.
Showered, even if it was an in and out, daily.
Looked at my fellow beakies, asked how they are. Some did not speak.
Remind myself that the only constant is change, and I have Melbourne weather as a constant reminder.
